Our world is basically corrupted with sickness and disease. Yeah, you heard me right. Just take a look around. Pop on the local news and you will surely see something regarding a virus or disease. There’s just no escaping this issue. If you’re human, it’s all around you. Of course every single one of us want to prevent ourselves from getting anything.
This is why professionals encourage certain lifestyles and practices. It’s prudent to stay on top of these issues at all times. Now, what about the afflictions you do acquire? Take the common cold or flu for instance. What do you do to get rid of these sicknesses quickly? Are you all for modern-day science or do you prefer an alternative herbal medicine? You may want to delve deeper before making any assumptions.
Can you name an alternative herbal medicine that works well for you? I know I can. You see, I tend to get sore in the forearm area. This is due to excessive typing. Clearly this could lead to horrific problems such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. However, I refuse to let such a thing happen.
Now, I could use an oral medicine such as Ibuprofen to deal with the soreness. Sure, it may help a little. But, I want something that is going to treat and heal my forearms. This is when I began searching for an alternative herbal medicine. Eventually I stumbled across a German alternative herbal medicine. It is called skin cream.
I immediately loved the fact that it’s all natural. Furthermore, it has been proven to heal joints and tendons. I knew it would be ideal for my aches and pains. After just one use, I was amazed at how well this alternative herbal medicine worked. I would think such a topical cream would make a fortune. These days I apply skin cream to my forearms each night before bed, and when I wake up each morning, they’re restored. It’s phenomenal stuff.
So, do you have a good reason why someone might choose an alternative herbal medicine over one that science has produces? Hey, I can. We are becoming more and more hip to the dangers of these man-made concoctions. It’s difficult not to notice all the backlash. I certainly don’t want my liver destroyed by some new-age medicine. Why not check out the contemporary alternative herbal medicine available these days instead.

Other traditional systems of medicine, particularly Asian traditions, use many herbs in synergistic mixtures or blends. We are just beginning to understand the complexities of herbal medicine, with its multiplicity of active chemicals in a single herb, and the interaction of a mixture of herbs found in traditional therapies.
In order to effectively research whether herbal medicine is effective or even safe, we need to detect all the active chemicals that exist in a medicinal plant, but also evaluate their effects on humans individually and together.
Herbal growers, manufacturers, researchers, medical clinicians, funding agencies are all part of the panoply of actors involved in the making of safe and effective herbal medicine. As demand for alternative medicine has grown, so have the harvesting and collection pressures for numerous ecologies that produce the medicinal plants of interest.
Ultimately, together we will influence not only the quality of herbal medicine available to us in stores, but also whether we will maintain the diversity of plant life necessary to sustain a diversity of cultures and alternative methods for maintaining good health.

Find Chinese medicine degree programs in the United States and Canada. Chinese medicine degree programs are becoming more and more popular. Students interested in enrolling in one of several Chinese medicine degree programs will find that a great number of alternative and Oriental medicine schools offer these programs, and certificate courses.
For example, students participating in Bachelor of Applied Science Chinese medicine degree program will gain a wealth of knowledge and skills in complementary medical systems (Chinese medicine and Western medicine) entailing coursework and practical training in acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage therapy (Tuina – Chinese medical massage), and nutrition. In addition to clinical subjects, students participating in Chinese medicine degree programs will acquire in-depth knowledge about anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theories and history.
Students may also engage in a masters of science in Oriental medicine course. This Chinese medicine degree program provides students with a four-year curriculum that trains future practitioners in classical Chinese medicine; preparing candidates to become licensed in the art of acupuncture and Oriental medicine. In many cases, most states require national certification from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) prior to attaining licensure.
Furthermore, if you’re like most ambitious students, you can opt to enroll in a dual Chinese medicine degree program where you can attain both your degree in classical Chinese medicine and in naturopathy. These Chinese medicine degree training programs do require a fair amount of time and dedication; often lasting about 6 years in duration. In addition, like many conventional degrees, earning your Chinese medicine degree at one of several healing arts schools often means that you must have had attained prior formal education and training from one of several traditional colleges and/or universities.

Find Chinese medicine education in the United States and Canada. Chinese medicine education offered through several acupuncture schools and other Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) schools include certificate programs that are comprehensive, and can enhance your professional aspirations.
A good example of one of the many certificate programs extended through an in-depth Chinese medicine education is the certificate in Chinese herbal medicine (CCHM). This Chinese medicine education program is a postgraduate course for licensed acupuncturists and covers a tremendous curriculum that includes Chinese medicine education in botany, Chinese medical terminology, herbal formulation and therapeutics, Chinese medicine principles and theories, and other related subject matter. Though each school varies in its Chinese medicine education; a number of these programs average about 62 credits.
Other certificate programs offered through Chinese medicine education courses are the Asian bodywork and Qigong courses. Chinese medicine education in these subjects encompass practical training and academics in a range of topics including but not limited to TCM theories, anatomy, qigong, clinical bodywork, shiatsu, biomechanics, kinesiology, Thai massage, Tuina, and other related studies. In many instances, successful students who have completed all bodywork training requirements are awarded Tuina and shiatsu massage certificates.
In addition, some Chinese medicine education courses are extended through home-study programs, as well as in-class studies. These certificate and continuing education programs include courses in herbology. In this Chinese medicine education course, students are introduced to Chinese herbal medicine, pathology, tonic herbs and formulation, and many more associated topics of interest.
Furthermore, several alternative healing schools will provide Chinese medicine education certificate and/or diploma courses in Oriental medicine nutrition, skin care, wellness and acupressure.

Find Oriental Medicine Schools in the United States and Canada. Whether your goal is to achieve your Masters in Acupuncture and Traditional Oriental Medicine, or to earn a diploma in Asian body therapy, Oriental medicine schools can provide you with an alternative health education that will give you the knowledge and skills to practice Oriental medicine therapies.
If you are one of the many candidates who is prepared to dedicate time and effort to one of several Oriental medicine schools and desire becoming an Oriental medicine practitioner, then you will discover that the vast majority of Oriental medicine schools offer a comprehensive curriculum in Oriental medicine anatomy and pathology, physiology, diagnosis, various acupuncture styles (E.g., 5-element acupuncture, Japanese acupuncture, etc.),needling techniques, meridian therapy and acupuncture anatomy, Tai Chi, Qi gong, Herbology, Eastern nutrition, and Chinese herbs.
In addition to in-depth, Oriental medicine studies, students enrolled in Oriental medicine schools will gain general education in biology, biochemical principles, medical terminology, human physiology, pathophysiology, clinical science and report writing. In many cases, Oriental medicine schools may include or extend general business management courses to those wishing to go into their own medical practices.
Students enrolled in Oriental medicine schools who opt to participate in this more advanced academic program will acquire the skills and knowledge to sit for the National Certification exam, and in most cases, be able to obtain licensure to practice acupuncture and Oriental medicine in the area where they reside. Furthermore, ambitious students registered in a number of Oriental medicine schools may elect to enroll in the Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program, which entails over 1,200 class and clinical hours of study.
A great many Oriental medicine schools provide diploma and certificate programs in a variety of Asian body therapies. Some certificate and diploma courses offered through Oriental medicine schools may include massage therapy, holistic health practitioner, Tui Na certification, and acupressure.

Among the strange items found in a half-dozen family medicine chests were old cloths to be used as bandages, cracked atomizer bulbs, horehound candy, shoehorns, curling irons, dried sponges, packages of seeds, hair grease, mange cure, face bleach, shoe polish, empty tooth paste and shaving cream tubes, fifty different remedies for colds, combs for permanent waves, bobby pins, the remaining partners of divorced cuff links, nail polish, bath salts, and discarded sets of teeth.
The number of antiseptics found, and their efficiency, varied tremendously. One or two antiseptics were found in some cases, and as many as six different antiseptics in others, individual members of the family having their own likes and dislikes in these matters.
A household remedy should be one with a certain definite action, and usually it should contain but one active ingredient. If the thing is worth keeping in the medicine chest it should be something which is used fairly frequently.
Dangerous poisons have no place in the family medicine chest. A dangerous poison is one which is likely to produce serious symptoms or death if taken in even moderate amounts.
The wise person will go over the family medicine chest at least once every three months and discard all materials not constantly in use. It is also well to have the family doctor take a look at the materials, offer his advice on those worth keeping, and make suggestions as to what is needed.
Suitable Items For Medicine Chests
Most families want to keep on hand a laxative or cathartic. Under certain circumstances any laxative or cathartic may be exceedingly dangerous, most conspicuously in appendicitis. Appendicitis is at first just an infected spot on a little organ which extends from the large bowel and which, apparently, has no serious function in the human body. If this infection develops, as a boil develops from a pimple, it is in danger of bursting and spreading throughout the body. Therefore, no laxative or cathartic should ever be taken when the abdomen is exceedingly painful.
Most modem women prefer to keep their cosmetics in their own boudoirs, but the man of the house is likely to put his into the family medicine cabinet. They should include, in most instances, a razor, which should be kept in its box and not permitted to lie around loose, also some shaving soap or cream, some face lotion, which may be either witch hazel or a special lotion which he prefers.
Antiseptics
Among the antiseptics approved by the Council on Pharmacy and Chemistry are preparations of hexylresorcinol and preparations of metaphen, also merthiolate, zephiran, cepryl, and neutral solutions of chlorinated soda and hydrogen peroxide. The Council has not approved antiseptics commonly represented as being useful in the relief of all sorts of infections of the throat and also for the prevention of various types of infectious diseases, including colds.
One of the best old-fashioned antiseptic solutions for common use around the home is boric-acid solution. Most people prefer to have packages of crystals of boric acid or of the powder and to make up the solution fresh just before use.
First Aid
In these days when everybody takes the chance of needing emergency first-aid treatment, because of the use of the automobile and wide indulgence in sports and gardening, it is well to have first-aid supplies in the family medicine chest. Among the materials needed are adhesive tape of various widths, sterile cotton, sterile gauze bandages, sterile gauze pads, and a scissors which should be kept in the medicine chest exclusively for such purposes. You should also have the ready-made combination of a piece of adhesive tape with a tiny piece of sterilized bandage, that can be used to cover small wounds after they have been treated with iodine or mercurochrome.
Most people should know that the proper way to stop bleeding of small wounds is simply to press upon them with a sterile piece of gauze.
In cases of very serious wounds affecting arteries, and thereby difficult to control, it may be necessary to put a tourniquet around the limb. The tourniquet should be fastened just tight enough to stop the bleeding. An ordinary piece of rubber tubing or a narrow towel tied and twisted with a stick will serve most purposes satisfactorily..
The family medicine chest may also contain aromatic spirits of ammonia, which is sometimes given when a prompt stimulant is needed, following fainting. Half a teaspoonful in water, for a sudden fainting spell, is a fairly safe thing to give in most cases of this emergency.
It is not advisable to use a styptic in the form of a stick of alum to stop slight bleeding after shaving. Much better are any of the astringent surgical powders, of which a small amount may be taken from the box on each occasion and applied directly to the bleeding point.
Finally, any good talcum powder may be used after shaving and after bathing, according to the individual preferences of the users.
It is taken for granted that every modem household has a good clinical thermometer, a hot water bottle, and an ice bag. These are three exceedingly useful devices in any home, and when they are available in an emergency the comfort they give is tremendous.
In addition to the materials used for first aid, most families will have bedpans for use in cases of illness, glass drinking-tubes, syringes for giving enemas, atomizers, and sometimes special devices for creating steam to be medicated with small amounts of tincture of benzoin for relief in various forms of hoarseness or other conditions affecting the larynx and the lungs.
Taking Medicine
Medicines rightly used can be of immense aid and comfort to the afflicted; wrongly used, they may cause serious damage to the human body. When a doctor prescribes medicines for a patient, they are for that particular patient and not for anybody else in the family.
When you measure out the medicine think of what you are doing and pay no attention to anything else. Medicines are usually prescribed in dosages of drops, teaspoons, fractions of teaspoons, and spoons of larger sizes. Because spoons are nowadays in many fanciful shapes and sizes, each family should have a medicine glass with measures of various spoons recorded. When a doctor prescribes a certain number of drops they should be measured with a medicine dropper and not by guesswork.
If liquid medicine is being prescribed the bottle should be thoroughly shaken each time before the medicine is measured. Most medicine should be mixed with a little water when taken, but sometimes the medicine may be put in the mouth and washed down with a swallow of water. Pills and capsules should either be handed to the patient from the original package, so that he may help himself, put the pill or capsule on the back of the tongue, and wash it down with a drink of water, or else be brought to the patient on a spoon, so that he may take the pill or capsule from the spoon. The person waiting on the patient should not carry the capsules or pills in the palm of the hand, where they may be softened or disintegrated by moisture or contaminated from the hands.
There are several ways in which medicines of unpleasant taste may be made more palatable. If very cold water is taken it will serve to cover up the taste. It is not advisable to give medicine to children in foods, particularly in milk, as this may create a distaste for the food or milk which lasts for a long time afterward.

You may hear various difference terms when looking at treatments for your conditions. Two of the most common forms of treatment are allopathic and holistic medicine. In this article we will consider what each of these types of medicines are, where you will hear them mentioned and also what the significant differences between them are.
What is Allopathic Medicine?
Allopathic medicine is a term that is used to describe medical practice where a condition is treated with a medication that is designed to kill the illness. This may sound very familiar to you and it is largely because most of conventional medicine is effectively allopathic. You doctor will not tell you he is using allopathic medicine however that is what he is doing. You are more likely to hear the term when you visit a homeopath and that is largely because the differences are marked. In homeopathic medicine you will be given a substance that contains similar elements to your condition rather than those picked to kill it.
What is Holistic Medicine?
Holistic medicine is again quite a general term but it is a form of therapy that treats the person as a whole. Many alternative therapies are thought to be holistic. The aim with holistic medicine is to treat the mind, body, emotions and all elements of a person in order to bring about health. For example in a treatment like acupuncture the therapist will consider you, your background, how you react to things and your symptoms. This will allow them to develop a treatment plan that is specific to you, including your emotional, mental and physical needs. When looking into alternative therapies you will hear this term mentioned a lot of the time and so it is important to be aware what it is.
What is the difference between Allopathic and Holistic Medicine?
The main difference between allopathic and holistic medicine is the way in which treatment is approached. For example in allopathic medicine the aim is to treat the condition and to prescribe things to help you get rid of it. In holistic medicine although the aim is to also clear up a condition the focus is different. In allopathic medicine a doctor will focus on the condition only however holistic medicine will focus on the person, how that person reacts to that condition as well as their history.
It is worth mention that both of these terms are very broad and cover a large number of different therapies and treatments but that the general principles are the same based on which type of medicine it is. In addition if your doctor is prescribing allopathic medicine for you then it may be possible to use holistic medicine alongside this so that you can get the maximum benefits for you and your condition.

Naturopathy medicine or natural medicine is one of the emerging medicine fields in alternative medicine science and based on the belief that the human body has a natural healing ability. Many people often consider a naturopathic doctor very similar to the medical doctor, but there is basic difference between both of them. In comparison to medical doctor, the doctor of naturopathic medicine studies holistic and non-hazardous approaches towards treatment with a strong emphasis on optimizing wellness. Overall the future prospect of this profession seems to be very bright. Following your studies under naturopathic medicine program can help you get trained in various essential elements like clinical nutrition, acupuncture, and psychology and more. Generally, naturopathy programs conducted in alternative medicine institutes includes a minimum of 2 semesters of 9 months each. Though, at times this duration may vary accordingly.
The course includes paper on various subjects like botanical medicine, acupressure, hydrotherapy, gynaecology and many more. Moreover, theses days there are many alternative medicine institutes that are also offering naturopathy distance education programs as well. However, it doesn’t matter, whether you choose naturopathy correspondence course or on-campus program, once you complete the naturopathy course and obtain a Doctor of Naturopathic medicine degree, you become eligible for a wide variety of natural medicine careers, including massage therapy, Acupuncture, Aroma Therapy, Reflexology, health education and more.
