With the rising cost of healthcare, medications, and insurance, it isn’t surprising that people are trying to figure out ways to avoid getting sick and choosing a better lifestyle to lower insurance costs. Avoid excessive alcohol use, it lowers the immune system. People who consume more than 3-4 alcoholic beverages in a week are at far greatest risk of catching a viral or bacterial infection. Even if you do most of your drinking at home where you are safe from others germs, you still are very susceptible. Once the immune system has lowered its defenses you are risk anywhere you have to go and even in your home if you live with others who leave the house. Drinking excess alcohol can also lead to other very expensive health issues, such as liver disease or alcoholism. To be diagnosed and treated for chronic liver problems can and does cost deep in the pocket. Not to mention once you have this getting medical insurance with another company will be very hard and costly for a pre-existing condition. Plus current insurance premiums could rise now that you have a chronic condition.
3) Eat a healthy and nutritious diet
Eat a healthy and nutritious diet to maintain your body’s strength and vitality. The type of foods one puts in their mouth can be the difference between life and death in some cases. Eating right and getting all the nutrients and vitamins can severely reduce the risk of many diseases. Cutting out fatty, fried foods can keep your heart and circulatory system strong and healthy, and lower your risk of a heart attack and/or stroke. Many vitamins and minerals found in food also promote a strong immune system, which can help keep you infection free more often. Just adding more zinc to your diet can help boost your immune system enough to prevent catching colds and flues.
4) Get plenty of exercise.
The better tone and condition your body is in the less likely you are to get sick or have weight related health issues. It is very important to get exercise to keep your body happy and healthy, and prevent your money from going to undesired medical treatments. Regular and consistent exercise can help prevent heart related health problems later on in life. It promotes a better circulatory system and stronger heart muscle. Exercise also promotes better oxygen intake, which helps the lungs become more efficient. Also increased oxygen aids in better metabolism and can keep weight in check and reduce other illnesses like asthma and diabetes.
5) Keeping healthy
Make sure you have time or make time for rest and relaxation. Keeping healthy also includes staying happy. Reduce your stress, get plenty of sleep each night, and have leisure time. It is important to enjoy life and do things that ease tension and promote happiness. Proper rest and fun can cut down the risk of developing mental issues such as depression or anxiety that can cost much money in treatment and control of the disorder. Having that balance in ones life can really promote great mental health and clarity. Being burnt out or stressed out is associated with many disorders such as depression, anxiety, ulcers and other stomach issues, headaches, and insomnia. All of these ailments that can be prevented will save you tons of money on doctors visits, tests and treatments.

Lately more and more people talk about and even go to the dentist for different cosmetic dentistry procedures like teeth whitening. Reasons for which people turn to these procedures are various: from a car accident in which they broke their teeth, to the taking place of their weeding day on which they want to look great.
Teeth Whitening is the process of bleaching or whitening the teeth using chemicals or lasers. In old times teeth’s whitening was done with baking soda and some dentists still recommend this method as prevention of stained teeth and also for good gums, but today there are several possibilities for teeth whitening such as:
home kits bought by you over the counter or provided by the dentist
going to your dentist
and of course the tooth paste for teeth whitening.
Home kits usually contain gels and strips. Teeth whitening tooth pastes are meant to be used always on daily bases, 2-3 times per day. The home kits (gels and strips for teeth whitening) are usually used for several hours during the day or overnight for about 4 weeks.
The dentist approach for teeth whitening is the most recommended beside the tooth paste. Why? Because is the safest way to do it. Of course, there is the possibility to profit from teeth whitening with a home kit provided by the dentist, but it still takes you 4 weeks to get results. So, the fastest and safest way for teeth whitening remains going to the dentist and sit on the chair during 30-60 minutes per session, for several times. Dentists also use gels, but they are associated with heat treatments or laser bleaching. This gives great results in a much shorter period of time. Depending on your teeth, the teeth whitening at the dentist can be easier and have longer lasting results than all the other methods.
Cosmetic dentistry includes teeth whitening, but it also includes other procedures such as correction of bad teeth. When we talk about cosmetic dentistry, we think of several problems that need to be corrected or things that need to be improved such as:
if you have missing teeth or if, for some reason, the space between teeth is too large
teeth that are mismatched
if you have gums that show too much when you smile
also if your teeth are too small or large, too thin or too short
fillings that have natural appearance, meaning that they have the color of your teeth
replacing crowns that are old with new ones that are non metal
and, as I said before, it also includes teeth whitening.
In other words a cosmetic dentistry procedure could help restore our smile and our confidence. But, let’s not make a mistake by saying that cosmetic dentistry is meant to improve only our appearance. Cosmetic dentistry is very useful in restoring your health. Correcting your bite and your chewing abilities can be of great help. So, it is important to remember that cosmetic dentistry has a medical purpose too.
Just like in the case of teeth whitening, cosmetic dentistry can need 1-2 visits at the dentist’s, or even more, depending on the problems we have. There is also some cosmetic dentistry that may need to be preceded by teeth whitening with about 2 weeks if we want the maximum results. For example, dental restorations like crowns, veneers, bonding and bridges are made with materials that do not whiten so, the teeth whitening will be uneven. This is why, if we want to whiten our teeth, but we also need some cosmetic dentistry too such as the one mentioned above, we should do the teeth whiting first and, after that, start whatever cosmetic dentistry we may need.
As any other procedure, cosmetic dentistry (including teeth whitening) has some restrictions and warnings such as:
they are not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
under the age of 16 because there is the risk of irritating the pulp
if you are allergic to the whitening agent peroxide
and if we have some gum diseases that need first to be treated before anything else.
Very important to remember is that, if you want to undergo any procedure, you should first get research as much information as you can. For example, there are some voices that say that teeth whitening weakens our teeth and exposes them to other problems. This is why it’s much better to get informed and find out the truth. You can form your our own opinion and make the right decision regarding which cosmetic dentistry procedure to use.

Five Ways to Cut your Health Insurance Costs
Nearly one-third of all health-insurance premiums increased to 30 percent or more. At that rate, the average cost of health insurance per employee will exceed ,000. Seventy-three percent of senior executives believe health-care costs will continue to increase 20 percent or more each year for the next three years. The message here is clear: If you haven’t already gotten serious about cutting your company’s health-insurance costs, now is the time. It can be done. The first thing you should do is learn how the system works–or doesn’t work. Most small employers spend fewer than four hours a year thinking about their company health plans. Learn what your options are. Your insurance agent can help you shop for cheaper plans. But don’t stop there. Compare plan benefits, insurance-company records, and service guarantees.
Consider Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans and HMOs (health-maintenance organizations), even if your agent doesn’t handle them. The Blues in some areas, offer clear advantages to small companies. Experts regard HMOs as the best buys in health care. Find out if your company is eligible for new, low-cost health insurance plans now available in five states. In addition, foundation-funded pilot projects in several parts of the country are demonstrating that it is possible to cut health-coverage costs 30 to 40 percent. In short, health insurance isn’t as simple as it used to be. And the pace of change is accelerating, offering new hope for a truce in the business battle with exploding health-care costs. The next couple of years present as much potential for change as at any time in the past 20 years. You can be part of that change by putting at least some of the following 5 ideas to work for your company.
1) Increase Cost Sharing By Employees
This recommendation is at the top of every consultant’s list. Small companies tend to pay far more of their workers’ total health-care bill than large companies do. Yet research shows that insulating employees from the costs of care encourages unnecessary use of health services. Fifty-two percent of the companies responding to the Nation’s Business health survey said they pay 100 percent of their employees’ health-insurance premiums. But 45 percent said they intended to implement or increase employee contributions to these premiums. An equal number said they plan to increase employee deductibles. Insurance companies first attached 0 deductibles to major-medical plans in the early 1950s. But 40 percent of employers still set deductibles at 0 or less. Raising a 0 deductible to 0 would cut premium costs for single coverage by about 11 percent. A 0 deductible would cut costs by about one-fourth. A ,000 deductible would save about one-third.
2) Allow Employees To Pay For Health Premiums With Tax-Free Dollars
Set up a so-called flexible spending account, which allows your employees to pay their share of health-insurance premiums and un-reimbursed health-care expenses with pretax dollars. A flexible spending account could save employees 20 cents to 35 cents on the dollar, because state and federal income taxes and Social Security taxes are not imposed.
Moreover, the company saves by reducing the employee’s base salary on which it pays Social Security and other taxes. Hire an outside payroll accounting firm to handle the paperwork. You can pay the service fee and still come out with a net savings. The monthly administration fee would run between and per employee.
3) Transfer High-Risk Employees To The State’s High-Risk Pool
Insurance premiums soar whenever someone in a small-group plan becomes very ill–with cancer or heart disease, for example. As an employer, you should explore the possibility of moving employees with serious health problems into a state high-risk pool and then negotiating a lower premium for the healthy members of your group.
4) Switches To An Open-Enrollment Blue Cross And Blue Shield Plan
Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans operate as de facto high-risk pools in a number of states by providing “open enrollment” periods during which any group can buy insurance. Among the 74 Blue Cross and Blue Shield organizations nationwide, 21 offer open enrollment. All the Blues once used community rating to set premium levels. But that began to change in the 1960s when commercial insurers started to lure away firms with low risks by offering them cheaper health insurance.
5) Replace Your Traditional Health Plan With An HMO
Unlike traditional health insurance, HMOs cover all medical needs, including routine preventive care, for a flat monthly fee that typically is less expensive than traditional health insurance. Moreover, two types of HMOs, the staff and the group models, have proven to be more effective at controlling costs than any other form of health-care delivery.
