Finding a dentist that you can trust with your dental care is a difficult process that often requires a lot of investigation. These inquiries can take the form of asking your friends what dentists they go to or actually visiting the dentist you are interested in pursuing as your primary dental care physician.

This process of finding a dentistry wizard has been facilitated greatly by the new advances of local search tools. Local search is a growing ability to find pertinent information and honest reviews of almost any local service you are interested in finding. Google and Yahoo are probably the most well known services, but many new and interesting local search services are popping up.

When searching for a dentist you are concerned with the possible waste of time and resources in your search. This can take many forms but one of the first things that you will have to do when you meet with a new dentist is fill out the many forms that are necessary for the dentist to treat you. Once these forms are filled out, you will either need new x-rays or have your current x-rays transferred to the new dentist.

All of this time and effort may be wasted as you have not yet had any personal time with the dentist you are interested in visiting. This is possibly the biggest reason to turn to local search as a valuable resource in finding and weeding out dentists that will not serve your dental needs.

Local Search Using Google

1. Open your browser and go to the Google homepage. This local search engine is powerful and will offer you many benefits in your search.

2. Type “Dentist Surprise Az” into the search bar. This will bring up search results that relate to dentists in the Surprise, Arizona area. Very close to the top of the page will be a map centered on the city of Surprise.

3. Click on the link above the map titled “Local business results”. This will lead you to a page that has a list of dentists on the left-hand side of the page while the rest of the page is filled with a map with pins that correspond to the listed dentists.

4. Scroll through the list of dentists looking for listings that have reviews and pictures. These are usually dentists that have taken the time and interest to give information about their business such as accepted insurance plans and hours of operation.

5. When you find a dentist in this list that interests you, click on the “more info” link to the right of their business name. This will lead you to a complete listing of all the information they have shared about their business.

6. Verify that the listing is “Owner Verified” with a green check-mark on the upper right-hand side of the listing. This is what tells you, the customer, that this business has supplied this information so that you will understand the services they offer. The beautiful thing about this is that you can often virtually visit the dentist office without ever leaving your home!

7. Scroll down to the Review area to read the available reviews. Only a few of the reviews will be visible, so you will want to scroll to the bottom of the review area and click on the link titled “More Reviews”. This is your greatest resource to find out valuable information regarding the quality of service that this dental practice offers. Any business is likely to have one or two bad reviews but if you find that the bad reviews overwhelm the good reviews, it is probably a good sign to you as a customer that you would be better off looking elsewhere.

8. If the dentist you are researching has so far passed all of your criteria for a quality dentist, your next avenue should be to visit their website. You will find the website, if they have one, listed underneath the name and address of the full listing.

9. Verify that the website of the dentist you are researching agrees with the information you found in the local search listing. Their website should have additional answers to more detailed questions you may be concerned about.

10. Repeat this process for as many dentists as you think necessary. After researching in this way you will have a very good idea of what to expect from the dentist that you ultimately choose. You may also have some ideas of what to look out for and what steps you can take if events do not take place as they should. But most of all, you will have made an informed decision!

So don’t rush into any decision about which dentist you take your children to and it’s likely they’ll look forward to going to the dentist throughout their entire life.

If you are moving or need to find a new dentist in your area, you may not know where to begin. To get started, it is so important to do your homework, and check on which dental practice will be right for your family.

To begin with, you can always go by word of mouth if you have moved to a new area. Another method to use is to read online reviews about happy customers that have used dentists in your area. This will give you a better idea about the best dental practitioner near you, even if you are in a new city. If your current dentist belongs to a dental organization, he or she may be able to recommend another dentist in another city.

If you have already moved to your new town, you can ask your new friends for their word of mouth recommendations on dentists. Make sure that you are looking for an inviting dental practice that will be happy to answer your questions. If you do have a specific dental history, you will want to choose a dentist that can deal with your issue, whether it be cosmetic dentistry, a root canal, or routine cleanings.

Even more so, make sure to look out for these warning signs in choosing the right dentist. Don’t believe all advertising that you see, and also watch out for dentists that push cosmetic dentistry instead of routine dental procedures. It is also important not to use a dentist that tries to diagnose other illnesses that you could have unrelated to the health of your gums and teeth. For any other health issues, your dentist should refer you to a doctor. Oddly enough, there may also be dentists that try to sell vitamin supplements through a form of holistic dentistry, which should be avoided. These are simple warning signs to look out for in choosing a dentist.

After you have a dentist you are considering, try to schedule a meeting to get to know them. This way, you can ask any questions you may have. If the dentist you are interested in isn’t available to schedule a visit to meet them, then you may want to look for another dentist. The best dentist will be more than happy to schedule an appointment to get to know you so you feel comfortable.

Overall, there are numerous options in skilled dentists in every area when you have the right criteria. Choosing a new dentist for your family is the opportunity to protect the health of your teeth, prevent cavities and bacteria, and maintain healthy smiles!

Deciding on which dentist you want to work on your teeth can be an important, and frustrating, part of life. And determining if they are a “good” dentist can be a subjective experience. This is usually determined by what you need the dentist for. Are you looking for a general dentist who will professionally clean your teeth? Are you looking for a cosmetic dentist who can give you a smile makeover? Or are you looking for a dentist who is licensed in neuromuscular dentistry to help alleviate symptoms of, or even cure, problems associated with temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD)? This may all depend on how quickly you need one. If you are looking for someone to clean your teeth, you might be able to wait longer than if you need a dentist to look at why you have excruciating pain in your mouth.

Becoming a dentist requires two years of predental college courses, and four years of dental school. Some dentists go on to study at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies to learn about cutting edge technology and revolutionary dental practices. But maybe none of this matters to you. Maybe you just want that cavity filled as soon as possible. In that case, here are some things to look for when choosing a dentist that you can be happy with, and one who you can label “good.”

Dentist takes a personal interest in their patients and their health – You want a dentist who pays attention to your individual needs rather than one who sees you as only someone who is going to give them money. A dentist who is forthcoming, answers all of your questions, and will examine you during an initial consultation is most likely someone you can trust. Dentist performs a full-mouth examination – While every dentist obviously looks into the mouth, you want one who is inspect not only the teeth and gums, but also the lips, tongue, palate, and inside of the cheek. They might also look at the skin of the face and neck to feel for lymph node abnormality and enlarged lymph nodes. In addition, many dentists have added screening for oral cancer to their repertoire. A good dentist will also chart his or her findings. Dentist who schedules regular check-ups – Rather than seeing you as a fly-by-night customer who they only care to see once, or once in a while, a good dentist will be concerned with your dental routine: cleanings, bite evaluations, periodontal examinations, and fluoride treatment. These things can keep your teeth healthy and avoid costly repairs down the road. In certain cases, your dentist may want to schedule more than just the usual examination every six months if they notice something and want to keep an eye on it. A good dentist has high-quality work – If you need repairs, such as dental crowns, bridges or implants, or are interested in teeth whitening or veneers, the work should last more than just one or two years. When a good dentist cares about the quality of work, it shows in the amount of time it takes. Rather than assembly-line style dentistry, meticulous and painstaking procedures get the best results.

These are only some of the areas that a good dentist will excel in. While most of the dentists you may encounter in your search will be good, there are some who tend to give the entire field a bad name (no wonder so many people have dental phobia).

I had a very positive experience finding low cost dental care in Mexico.

In these very tough economic times, one has to be very careful with their money, and try to look for good deals. If you need to get some dental work done, you may be putting it off longer than you should simply because you can’t afford what it is going to cost. I am writing this article to tell you about a high quality, low cost alternative. Simply, go to a dentist in Mexico! Below, I tell you about my experience, and give you my recommendations.

Dentists scare me. It’s not the drilling, nor the shots of Novocain, but its the price they want to charge. While living in Denver, back in 1995, I had a molar break in half. I went in to see a dentist about it and was told that it would require a root canal, and a crown. I about fainted when I learned that the root canal alone was going to cost me 0 and the crown was 0. (Today, in 2009, the root canal would cost me about 00 and the crown would be around 0). I had a friend who was living in Chihuahua, Mexico, and as I had already planned to go and see him, I decided to see if I could get my tooth fixed in Mexico. During my vacation time that year, I had the dental work done on my tooth at a great savings. The root canal cost me 0 and the crown cost 5 for a total of 5. Compare 5 to the price in Denver of ,300 and you find that I saved over 00. The savings more than paid for my vacation!! That was 13 years ago, and my crown is still holding up great with no problems.

Through the years I have had a lot of dental work done in Mexico. I have also had some work done in the USA. The truth is, I have had fewer problems with the Mexican work than I have with the American work. The American dentists have commented very favorably to the many Mexican dentists crowns they have seen in my mouth. I have decided to share a few of my experiences with my fellow Americans who might read this to help them to take advantage of the great savings and high quality dental work available just across the line.

Personally, when I am looking for information on the internet, I hate to have to read on and on to find the vital information that I am looking for, so right now let me say that I think I have found the perfect place to get dental work done in Mexico. It is in Tijuana, just South of San Diego, CA. Airfares to San Diego are cheap, (I just booked a flight from Orlando, Florida to San Diego for 0 one way, including tax), and transportation to the border is very easy via the Old Town Trolley, (light rail). My Tijuana dentist, SAM Dental, actually has a website that you can access to find out about prices, contact information, and how to find the clinic. It’s found at http://www.goodsamdental.org The website is very informative and is worth checking it out.

6 BASIC TIPS on dental care in Mexico.

1. Price.

Be careful what you pay for dental care. You can get ripped off by dentists who charge Americans a lot more than the going rate. The quality of the dental work done in Mexico is very comparable to that in the USA, and the price is much cheaper. The reason for this is because the price of University training is subsidized by the government, and the costs of education are not so bloated, compared to the USA. A dentist in Mexico will come out of school and will not be head over heals in debt, like an American. Also, the costs of doing business, and the cost of living is a fraction of that in the USA. The result is, there are a lot of great dentists who simply don’t have to charge so much in order to make a good living. Besides that, the local Mexican people are very limited in their income and ability to pay for services. Although there are many dentists near the boarder who cater only to Americans, their prices are still affected by the cheaper dentists just a little further in. But don’t get excited over the lower prices and just use any dentists. If they have a big fancy office, it’s because they are catering only to Americans and are charging a lot more than the competition. If you look around, you can find an equally competent dentist who will charge you less for the same work. I have found that often there are two prices. What they charge a American can be much more than what a regular Mexican pays. That is why I fell in love with Sam Dental. They actually post the prices for the work they do on their website. I recently checked out the cost of having a porcelain over metal crown at a couple of other dentists. They wanted to charge 0 for a root canal, 5 for the crown, and $ 75 for a post, for a total of 0. Sam Dental Tijuana dentist clinic charged me 5 for everything.

2. Location.

You will want to find a dentist that is fairly close to the border crossing. What I recommend is to take the Trolley to the border. If you fly into San Diego, it is not necessary to rent a car. By asking at the info desk in the lobby at the baggage claim, they will direct you to where you can catch the 992 bus that takes you into down town. Tell the shuttle bus driver that you want to get off to take the Trolley, (light rail train). He’ll drop you off in front of the American Plaza train platform. (From Airport to Trolley it takes 15 minutes). There you’ll buy a ticket at the machine for .50 to go on the blue line to San Ysidro, Mexican Border. You just go to the end of the line. When you get off, you’ll see a pedestrian bridge that you walk over until you enter Mexico. Once there, you’ll find dozens of Taxi drivers who are clamoring for you attention. Just grab one. They’ll have someone standing out front, who speaks English, who’ll be asking you where you want to go. Just give them the address. My dentist is just 5 minutes away. The website can give you the exact address to copy down to hand over to the taxi driver. When you call ahead of time to set up your appointment, they’ll walk you through it. The first time I went, they actually sent someone to pick me up.

3. Transportation & Lodging.

If you want to stay in San Diego, and rent a car, I still recommend that you park in the parking lot for the trolley and take it down to Tijuana. I don’t recommend driving a car into Tijuana. All the traffic can make you nervous. If you want to stay in San Diego, there are a lot of inexpensive hotels in Chula Vista off of E Street, which also has access to where you can catch the trolley. If you are a little more adventurous, you might want to simply stay in Tijuana. There are a lot of nice hotels, that are a lot less expensive than in San Diego. In fact, there is a descent hotel, clean but not too many frills, right across the street from my dentist. However, I kind of like to stay about 15 minutes away, over in Playas de Tijuana, by the beach. There is a cool walkway with stores and restaurants right on the beach, and I found a coffee shop that I like to sit at and read a book while drinking a frapechino and listening to the breakers. In any case, my dentists office helped me to find a hotel and took care of booking arrangements. I just had to tell them what I wanted.

4. Time frame required.

I have made several trips to Mexico and had root canals and crowns done in just 5 days. I have had crowns, with no root canal required, done in 2 days. It costs a little more to have the lab expedite the work, and it is tiring to sit for a long time in the chair having everything done at once, but it is possible and worth it. However, I have to say that in order to figure out how long it will take, the dentist has to check out what needs to be done. If you have a tooth that is infected, you have to get the infection cleared up before a root canal can be performed. Nevertheless, the dentist can get give you a good idea of how much time you need to budget when she talks to you on the phone. If you live in the San Diego or L.A. area, it is a lot easier to go across the border for multiple visits. But if you are flying in, you’ll want to budget enough time to get it all done. There are many US citizens who are going on medical vacations to Mexico today. Last time I was in Tijuana, we had a couple of days to spare and so we went down to Ensenada. I’d like to go down and do some fishing in the ocean off a boat next time.

To Enter Mexico: USA Visitors to the northern part of Baja California do not need US passports or tourist cards if staying in the country for a short time. If you plan to stay for an extended period, or if you plan to travel beyond Ensenada, You will need to obtain a tourist card. Proof of US citizenship would then be required.

To return back into the USA: To return back into the USA: As of June 1, 2009, US customs will begin asking for a passport. While the truth is, if you have your drivers lisc. and birth certificate, they will definitely allow you back into the country. Nevertheless it is best to go ahead and get your passport to avoid being hasseled by customs. you If you have any doubts, by all means go to the government website to check it out. Click here to link to the Department of Homeland Security. If you have time, it is good to get a U.S. passport, but don’t be overly concerned. If you live in San Diego or L.A., you’re good to go, with your California Drivers license and your birth certificate, for at least 2 or three years.

6. Funds.

This is an important point that I don’t want to forget. It is no necessary to travel with a lot of cash to Mexico. I only take a couple of hundred dollars in my wallet. Dollars are as accepted as Mexican pesos for the purposes of purchasing things. However, sometimes you’ll get a better exchange rate changing some of your money at a “Cambio” store front. But what I do is simply bring my ATM card and get cash at any banks ATM machine. The exchange rate at the ATM is usually pretty good. You can use your VISA or MASTERCARD to pay for hotels, and most restaurants. I use cash just to pay for small things like taxis, or food at a taco stand or a hamburger joint. Some dentists will even accept your credit card for payment. I know mine does. I have found that the amount charged to my card has been at a good exchange rate in dollars.

Many kids have a fear of the dentist. All those tools that dentists use can be frightening for a kid at first glance. Understanding what those tools are and what they each do can help. Kids also need to know that the dentist is there to help. With a few fun activities and a dose of education on dentists, you may be able to alleviate your kid’s fear of the dentist.

Tooth Talk

The first step in getting kids comfortable with dentists is discussing why they need to go. Explain that dentists need to make sure their teeth are healthy and clean. Let them play with a toy kit of dental instruments as you emphasize the “coolness” of the tools, rather than the scariness.

Role Play With a Dentist Kit

After the tooth talk, take turns playing dentist with a dentist kit. Kids and parents can take turns playing the role of dentist and patient. Playing out each role can help your children associate happy feelings with the dentist. Familiarization can help to alleviate your kid’s fear of the dentist.

Online Interactive Dental Games

Some toothpaste companies provide online interactive sections for kids with games and actives that help teach them about the dentist and tooth care. Exploring these with your kids can further familiarize them with the dentist and help to alleviate their fears. .

Dental Coloring Book

Kids love to color. Why not allow them to color a dental coloring book? The pictures will show them what may happen, and some dental coloring books even have a story to read. Many Web sites also have free dental coloring pages that are printable.

Useful Tips

Remember, to a child, dentists may be perceived as strangers with scary tools. To alleviate your child’s fear of the dentist, familiarize your child with common dental tools and what they are for.

If your child has a friend or sibling that has already been to the dentist, let that child explain to yours how fun the visit was. Sometimes hearing it from another kid can help alleviate your kid’s fear of the dentist.

Talk to the dentist about your kid’s fear. Sometimes they have helpful tips and may also have ways to calm the child during the visit. Many dentists will even give the kids a special signal they can use that means stop. When the kid uses this signal, the dentist will know that he or she is uncomfortable and will stop for a minute to allow the child to relax.

Since you are reading this online, you can presumably search online for a good dentist, which is an efficient way to do it. If you want a dentist near your home, you can do your search for something like “cosmetic dentist New York City”, “Dallas sedation dentist” or “TMJ dentist in Santa Fe”. You will then get great numbers of possibilities to check out.

Check the Dentist’s Training and Background

Scan through some of the websites, checking the dentist’s bio page (probably called “About Dr. BriteSmile” or “Meet Our Dentists”). If you are looking for a cosmetic dentist, be sure to check whether the dentist has training in that. Any general dentist can offer cosmetic procedures on the side, but without proper post-graduate training in the skills and materials of cosmetic dentistry, how well would he or she be doing it?

The best cosmetic dentists have extensive training at a post-graduate dentistry school such as the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). This should be mentioned on the bio page, perhaps with specific skills and areas of training listed.

If you are looking for a neuromuscular dentist, look for post-graduate training in that area too. Again, LVI offers extensive education, both theoretical and hands-on, in neuromuscular dentistry and the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, also abbreviated as TMD). That is a misaligned bite, arising from misaligned teeth, misaligned jaw joints, or both. It has a long list of painful and uncomfortable symptoms, with persistent headaches being one of the most common.

Perhaps you feel anxiety about visiting a dentist and would like to find a sedation dentist? If so, check each website’s navigation for a page on Sedation Dentistry, as that tells you that the dentist puts a priority on patient comfort.

Check the Procedures Offered

If you know what dentistry procedures you need or want, you can read about them and by poking around each site you’ll probably learn new things too. If there’s an “About Us” or “Meet Our Team” page you can probably see photos of each staff person and read their statements.

Many sites have a Technology page that describes the equipment they use for such things as giving pain-free anesthetic, detecting decay very early, and diagnosing TMD. The best dentists offer digital X-rays and use a digital camera. This provides instant images that can be discussed on the chairside computer monitor.

Schedule Consultations

When you have a short list of possibilities, call or email each one to set up consultations with the dentists. These will usually be free of charge. Take pen and paper and your questions and make brief notes during each consultation. You would want to choose a dentist who answers your questions clearly and appears to have time to spend with you, although there may be a set time allotted for consultations.

While you are at each dental office, glance around to see how the staff seems to operate. Are they relaxed and focused? Do they seem to get along well with each other? Most cosmetic dentists work well with their team members and try to create a calm and welcoming atmosphere for their patients. You would want to feel comfortable talking to the dentist in his facility, since you would be returning there for your various dental appointments over the years.
